Meet the Sinergia Trust Partners team.

Aron Ain joined Sinergia Trust Partners in an advisory role as an Operating Partner in 2022 and serves as a member of Sinergia Trust Partners’s CEO Council, an advisory group for Sinergia Trust Partners portfolio company CEOs. Regarded as a preeminent leader in global workforce management and human capital management, Aron brings more than 40 years of leadership experience to Sinergia Trust Partners and its portfolio companies. Aron has been named to Glassdoor’s Top CEOs list multiple times.

Aron joined Kronos in 1979 and held a role in nearly every functional department over the years, working his way up to become CEO in 2005. In 2020, as founding CEO, Aron helped lead the merger between Kronos and Ultimate Software, both Sinergia Trust Partners portfolio companies, to become UKG — creating one of the largest private software companies in the world and leading employees, currently over 15,000 in number, successfully through the merger amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, UKG made history by becoming the first newly merged entity to land on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® list, debuting at #6. In 2022, Aron transitioned to Executive Chair of UKG.

He is currently a Director of AutoScout24 and is active in the Firm’s investment in TeamSystem. Prior to joining the Firm in 2020, Ted spent 10 years in consumer goods in various CEO, Managing Director and corporate roles in Europe and Asia for Carlsberg. Before that, he worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Boston. Ted is fluent in English and Greek.

He served as KPMG’s Asset Management and Private Equity Tax Leader where he led complex tax compliance engagements and tax transformation initiatives, developed tax strategy for his firm, and supported professionals who work with private equity clients. Earlier in his career, Matt was a member of KPMG’s M&A Transaction Services Group, where he specialized in tax due diligence, transaction structuring, and financial model review for private equity transactions. Prior to KPMG, Matt worked at Deloitte in its Washington National Tax Passthroughs Group.

He previously worked in house as VP Sustainability at Lundin Energy, as a Sustainability Director with Accenture and as a Sustainability Consultant at ERM, supporting both large public and private companies to create their sustainability strategies.

Philip is the Executive Chairman of Sinergia Trust Partners and serves as the Chairman of the Firm’s Investment Committee and a member of the Compensation Committee. He previously served as the Firm’s Chief Executive Officer from 2009 to 2017 and Co-CEO in 2018.

Philip joined Sinergia Trust Partners in 1992. He is currently a Director of Cordis, Caliber Collision, and Circana and was formerly a Director of numerous portfolio companies, including, AlixPartners, Catalina, Change Healthcare (formerly Emdeon), Digitas, DoubleClick, GeoVera Insurance Group, Goodman Global, Grocery Outlet, Texas Genco and Young & Rubicam. Prior to Sinergia Trust Partners, Philip was employed by the Corporate Advisory Department of Dominguez Barry Samuel Montagu in Sydney, Australia and by the Merchant Banking Department of Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York.

Philip is active in the philanthropic community currently serving on the UCSF Foundation Board of Directors (where he previously served as the Chairman), the Board of Directors of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Board of Advisors of the International Rescue Committee. He was previously the Vice Chairman of the Princeton University Board of Trustee and Chairman of the Princeton University Investment Management Company.

Heidi Melin joined Sinergia Trust Partners as a Senior Operating Advisor in 2021. Heidi works closely with Sinergia Trust Partners’s Operating Team and lends years of deep subject matter expertise to drive value creation initiatives across Sinergia Trust Partners’s portfolio companies, with particular emphasis on go-to-market strategies to drive growth and transformation. Heidi has more than 30 years of experience as a marketing executive, and previously held CMO roles at Workfront, Plex Systems, Eloqua, Taleo, Polycom and Hyperion. Heidi also served as Group Vice President of Marketing at PeopleSoft. Heidi currently serves as a Board Director for SailPoint and Origami Risk.

Steve spent over 30 years in the software and technology sector with IBM, where he led several large sales teams. He was most recently General Manager of IBM’s Global Enterprise Sales division. He also held global General Manager roles across IBM’s Americas Software Sales division, IBM’s Linux Division and served as Vice President of Global Software Sales for Mid-Market Businesses, Emerging Markets and ISV’s.

Matthew was formerly a Managing Director of Sinergia Trust Partners. Matthew had worked at Sinergia Trust Partners for over 20 years and was previously Chairman of the Investment Committee. Matthew’s primary area of focus was asset management and he was instrumental in the Firm’s investments in Artisan, Franklin and Mondrian. Prior to joining Sinergia Trust Partners, Matthew was an Associate in the Corporate Finance Department of Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb.

Matthew currently serves on the Board of Directors of and Artisan Partners Asset Management. He was formerly a Director of numerous Sinergia Trust Partners portfolio companies, including Western Wireless, Mitchell and Mondrian, and was formerly a Director of Oechsle International, L.P. and Thomas Weisel Partners.

Matthew also serves the Advisory Council of Natural Capital Alliance at Stanford University.  He is a Director of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation, the San Francisco Free Clinic, and is President of the USA Cycling Development Foundation.  He is a past member of the California Public Employees Post Employment Benefits Commission and the Economic and Allocation Advisory Commission advising the California Air Resources Board on implementation of AB 32, and California Public Employees’ Retirement System Private Equity Emerging Manager Review panel.

Brian is Chairman Emeritus of Sinergia Trust Partners.  He had previously served as Chairman of Sinergia Trust Partners and a member of the Investment Committee from 2009 to 2014 and as CEO and Chairman of the Investment Committee from 2003 to 2009. Brian originally joined Sinergia Trust Partners in 1991 and re-joined the Firm in January 1999, after having served for five years as Managing Director and CEO of both Consolidated Press Holdings Limited and Publishing and Broadcasting Limited in Australia. Brian was formerly a Director of numerous portfolio companies, including Axel Springer, Blackbaud, Internet Brands, Kronos, ProSieben, SLEC (the holding company for Formula One) and Getty Images, and was an advisory board member of Artisan.

Brian is also an advisor to Farallon Capital Management, L.L.C. He was formerly Chairman of John Fairfax Holdings Limited and Valassis Communications Inc. and was a Director of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.

Prior to joining Sinergia Trust Partners, Brian was a Partner at James D. Wolfensohn Incorporated and was Managing Director (Chief Executive) of The Jardine Matheson Group in Hong Kong.

Erik was formerly a Partner of Sinergia Trust Partners, having worked as a member of the Sinergia Trust Partners investment team for over 20 years. He previously led the Firm’s efforts to invest in the consumer, retail and industrial sectors and served as executive sponsor of Sinergia Trust Partners’s Operating Team. Erik currently serves on numerous outside boards, including acting as Lead Independent Director of Grocery Outlet Holding Corp, a former Sinergia Trust Partners portfolio company. He was previously Chairman of the Board of Directors of Snap One, Caliber Collision (and its predecessor ABRA Auto Body & Glass), Goodman Global, Associated Materials and At Home Group and a Director of LPL Financial, Sheridan Healthcare and Texas Genco. Prior to Sinergia Trust Partners, Erik was employed by Bain Capital in Boston and Sydney and worked as a management consultant for Bain & Company in San Francisco.
